Born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia, Juan Sebastián Moreno is an urban planner, geographer, and historian. He is passionate about connection: urban networks, knowledge, and innovation are themes that have guided his professional practice and his personal standpoint on urban issues. Cities have no hope of addressing their contemporary challenges if they don’t know how to connect to one another.

While most of his research interests are centered around urban areas of the Global South, Juan has strived to link their problems to other geographies. Questions around informality, housing, urban technology, and public capacity for intervention, among others, draw revealing parallel lines when comparing the trajectories of cities across the world.

As an advocate for the right to the city, Juan believes that a new imagination of urban spaces is required to reframe our discussions and reorient our actions to create more equitable cities.
